Preparing Our Homes

I love the quote from President Kimball when he says, "...only those who believe deeply and actively in the family will be able to preserve their families in the midst of the gathering evil around us." President Kimball speaks of the power of family when it continues to grow as a whole and are strengthened by each other. In this world that we live in today, we are constantly surrounded by temptations and by those who pressure us to do what everyone else is doing. While Satan is trying to gather families to destruction, I will make sure to make my home gospel centered and where the Holy Spirit can be present. When our homes are filled with the gospel, evil cannot enter in. If we have a spiritual foundation in our home, then we can it can be the rock of our Redeemer. I want our home to be a place where we can be strengthened by each other. In D&C 88:119 it says, "Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith, a house of learning, a house of glory, a house of order, a house of a God." I love this scripture because when we have all these spiritual strengths in our home, then we will not be destined to fail. To keep a house of prayer and fasting, I want to have family prayer each morning and night. We can have a house of faith by believing in the goodness of God and focus on what we can do to believe in the gospel principles. We can have a house of learning and glory by being obedient, self-reliant, honest, and faithful in the gospel principles and from each other. For a house of order, us parents are to teach and guide our families using acceptable standards for the children and setting limits. Having a house of order can also include leading our children to becoming worthy to enter the temple, becoming missionaries, and be ready for eternal marriage. Once we have all these strengths in our home, we can then have a house of God. When we have a spiritual foundation, we will be able to stand in the storms of life. I know that if I have these principles in my home, that my family and I will be able to withstand worldly temptations and we can be spiritually strong.
